Incline Village Golf Courses Ranked One of Golf World’s 100 Best Golf Shops

It was announced recently that the Golf Courses at Incline Village have been ranked as one of Golf World’s 100 Best Golf Shops in America. The Golf Courses at Incline Village are absolutely thrilled with this award and strive to make the Incline Village Golf Shop the best that it can be. This is the first national award recognition the Golf Shop has received.

One of the major contributions to receiving this award is the Golf Shop’s involvement with the golf professionals to grow the junior golf program. Over 100 junior golfers participated in the 2007 program and the Golf Shop added new vendors with products specifically for juniors, selling 31 sets of junior clubs, creating a trade-in/trade up program and adding excitement for future growth. The shop helped to encourage the parents and grandparents to join the juniors in family golf, getting many who have never played or visited the Golf Shop before to be more active participants and customers.

The Golf Courses at Incline Village were recently notified that the Nevada Golf Course Owners Association named them the NVGCOA Golf Course of the Year!

Riley, led the effort to obtain sanctuary status on the course and is being recognized for Environmental Stewardship.  The Mountain Course is the third in Nevada and 498th in the world to receive the honor.

“Mountain Golf Course at Incline Village has shown a strong commitment to its environmental program.  They are to be commended for their efforts to provide a sanctuary for wildlife on golf course property,” said Joellen Zah, Program Manager for the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Programs.

“To reach certification, a course must demonstrate that they are maintaining a high degree of environmental quality in a number of areas,” explains Zeh.  These categories include:  Environmental Planning, Wildlife & Habitat Management, Outreach and Education, Chemical Use Reduction and Safety, Water Conservation and Water Quality Management.

“The Mountain Course enrolled in the Audubon Sanctuary Program to take an active role in responsible golf course maintenance as it relates to the environment,” stated Riley.  “We hope that through our efforts we can be a leader in educating the community about responsible environmental practices and their benefits.  I would like to thank all those individuals, both within and outside our organization who helped us achieve certification, especially my maintenance crew.”

The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses is endorsed by the United States Golf Association.  It provides information and guidance to help golf courses preserve and enhance wildlife habitat and protect natural resources.  For more information contact Audubon International at (518) 767-9051 or visit their website at www.audubonintl.org
